Your mission is to manage all aspects of the technology/R&D function to develop, evaluate, and implement new products and process technologies that enhance company profitability, product quality, and customer satisfaction. Own the initiating, executing, and supporting various R&D initiatives across LPs businesses Develop and ensure alignment of Strategic Technology Plan with needs of Business Strategic Plans and Corporate Growth and Innovation Plan. Directly supervise scientists and technologists. Responsible for selection, hiring and performance management of Technology Group positions. Collaborate effectively with business teams and cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize and execute work in support of Business Objectives and Corporate Growth and Innovation objectives. Ensure effective communications and working relations at the interfaces between Engineering, R&D, Q&T, Environmental, IT, and Manufacturing along with adherence to the corporate NPD process. Support the Business Engineering Managers in developing and executing effective capital plans. Ensure access to education, training, and coaching for team members to enhance overall team efficiency. Develop and manage project and departmental budgets. Perform all duties in accordance with safety policies, and ensure access to safety education and training for all reports. Tools Needed for Performance Demonstrated knowledge of quality systems and standards Ability to cooperate effectively with people at all levels of the corporation. Good business acumen and technical judgment. Knowledge of product certifications and building code requirements. Ability to represent LP and interact effectively with customers, suppliers, and third parties. Skill in budget management and knowledge of financial accounting systems. Excellent written and oral communication skills; interpersonal skills, people development, peer collaboration, team building, and leadership skills. Knowledge of third part testing and research collaborative efforts Education & Education Minimum 15 years experience, 6-10 years of which are in management, in one or more of the following fields: Engineering, Manufacturing, Technology Development, R&D, or Quality. Demonstrated experience in implementing corporate-wide, cross-functional programs. Forest Products Industry experiences preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position. Travel required (20% or more). Bachelors degree in Engineering, Forest Products, Chemistry, or related field required; an advanced degree is preferred Bonus Points - Preferred If You Have... Extensive knowledge of the building products industry, equipment, and manufacturing processes. Thorough understanding of the science of wood composites, the raw materials and major machine/process centers used in LP operations, and the factors that influence product properties and performance.
